“She deserved it, look at what she’s wearing…”

A woman said this to me. A WOMAN. I could not believe that a woman could make such ignorant comments about rape. But maybe I was being ignorant myself for thinking so.

No one deserves to be raped. What a woman wears is not grounds to attack her. Society is so backwards with gender relations and issues. A woman has the right to wear what she wants and she should not be subjected to possible rape because of it.

Do you honestly think every woman that has been sexually assaulted was wearing “stripper clothing” when it happened?

It’s a shame that a stigma is placed on victims of sexual abuse. Never should we try to find blame in the victims, and not the attackers.

well… it certainly doesn’t help her not get raped does it? maybe that’s what she means?

I agree that no one deserves to be raped. No one EVER should be treated like they don’t matter. That they are worthless. That they are something that can be used and abused.

But as for the way women dress… I know… your body, your money, your decision. But really, how can you think that someone can take you seriously when parts of your are showing that shouldn’t be?

All of this comes down to one thing. Control.

Wtf? Control? Control of who? The rapist? The woman being raped? Fashion? Wtf are you talking about. The only part that made sense about your statement was the second paragraph but then you ruin it with your awful syntax and grammer.

If woman want to wear that, then let them. If it makes her feel pretty, then she can wear whatever she wants.

If you looked into and sort of study, or actually thought about what you said, or had any acknowledge of a rapist’s mind you would fucking know that it’s not about what the woman is wearing or how she is acting that gets her raped. Thinking that is stupid. When a man rapes someone it is about power. Maybe that what you meant by control. But that being said make sure whatever you say makes fucking sense. Otherwise you might end pissing off other people and woman that have been raped, besides me.

Dumb ass.

First of, I’m talking about two different things here. I can see the kind of mix up. I usually go off in tangents…

Yes that’s what I meant by control for the rape part.

As for the clothes part…. IDK if you’ve noticed or not, but women’s clothing has evolved to barely nothing while mens fashion has stayed relatively the same. And, I am well aware that its your choice. But, I mean, most of these risque choices are to attract the attention of the opposite sex. Deny as much as you want, but its so instilled into our minds. Don’t deny that you want to attract some kind of attention.. even if its just your friend saying “cute shirt.” Control the gaze if you will.. that’s what I meant. Honestly, I can’t care less what people wear. I just rather not have someone’s junk hanging all out there.

I agree….no one deserves to be treated subordinately and abused…..juliaspeaks is correct when she says that it is about control….but if you also look more into these studies, it says that it is about control but a lot of rapists rationalize their actions by saying something along the lines of “it was her fault….she was dressed too sexy…she was asking for it…” ..which is a very DISTORTED way of thought…but i think amanda means that while women think that they have power over their own sexuality or have control when it comes to dressing a certain way, there is an actually such a thing as “dressing too sexy” and this has an opposite effect….some of you are claiming that it shouldn’t matter how a person dresses…yes..it SHOULDN’T matter..that would be awesome….but it does matter..so i have no idea why juliaspeaks is cussing at amanda and calling her a dumbass…amanda’s statements weren’t supposed to be offensive..she clearly had a point…no where in her blog does it say that dressing too sexy DIRECTLY causes being raped…she just states that dressing too sexy makes it hard for women to be respected…..it seems as if juliaspeaks couldn’t separate these two entirely different concepts….you are forgetting to acknowledge that double standards do exist…”SHOULD” doesn’t mean that it is that way…and it really is unfair….

the article “claiming jezebel,” which is a gender study on female sexuality mentions Lil Kim as an example….she dresses sexy because she claims she’s the one in control of the male gaze…however, all she does is aid in the objectification of women by dressing and acting in a sexual manner because it provokes men to only see her in a sexualized way…..please refer to the music video “how many licks” if you have no idea what i’m talking about…singing about being in control while pretending to be a doll? yeah…exactly

but this factor still affects gender relations……rape can happen to any woman….and that’s what i think amanda means by saying “well it certainly doesn’t help her not get raped?” because dressing a certain way tends to get more attention whether it was intentional or not
